A lettermark is a typography-based logo made out of a few letters, usually the initials of a company. The lettermark is all about keeping things simple. Lettermark logos are helpful at streamlining any company brand if it has a long name by using only a few letters. How much easier is it to say—and remember—IBM than it is to say—and remember—International Business Machines?

Lettermarks or monogram logos are logos made of of letters, usually brand initials. ABC, RCA, ESPN, and the UFC… Is there a pattern here? They’re the initials of a few well-known companies with long names. They’ve all resorted to utilizing their initials for brand identification because they only have 2 or 3 syllables to remember. As a result, it’s only natural for them to utilize monograms—also known as lettermark logos—to signify their organizations.

A logomark is an image or symbol that represents a brand but does not normally include the company’s name.

This version offers a wide creative range and can help a company establish a powerful visual identity.

On the other hand, because it does not include the company’s name, a logomark is usually best suited to organizations that are already market leaders with a well-established brand identity.

Why Should You Use Logomark?

  1. Using a logomark can create a strong visual appearance for your company and have a major impact on brand identity, depending on your budget and type of organization.
  2. Logomark is used by well-known and well-established market leaders. This style is used by Apple, Starbucks, Shell, and Target.
  3. Logomarks are more ‘abstract,’ and they exist as a symbol rather than a brand name.
